Mark Alan Hollingsworth, beloved son of Jane and Michael Hollingsworth of Moraga, cherished brother of Andy Hollingsworth of Walnut Creek passed away unexpectedly in Santa Barbara, CA on Sept. 27 leaving a gigantic hole in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
Born on January 13, 1989, Mark grew up in Moraga and attended Rheem Elementary, JM Intermediate and graduated from Campolindo High School in 2007 and from UC Santa Barbara in 2011. Following graduation Mark remained in Santa Barbara where he has been employed for the past two years as a Finance Manager.
Some of Mark's happiest times were spent with his family at their mountain cabin where he loved to ride mountain bikes with his brother, Andy. Although he had been living in Santa Barbara, he returned often to visit his family and friends. The family will cherish many beautiful memories of their time with Mark which although far too short was filled with many family activities and vacations.
Mark's other family was the immense circle of friends that surrounded him with love and opportunities for fun and adventure. He remained in contact with friends ranging back to his earliest days in elementary school. They enjoyed activities including golf, camping, hiking Half Dome and the Grand Canyon and concerts, with the highlights being the Coachella and Outside Lands music festivals.
Mark will be remembered for his smile, his compassion, his sensitivity, his passion for anything he undertook, his desire to give his best effort to everything from his school work, his golf game, his guitar playing, or any other interest he pursued. He had an amazing work ethic always going the extra step for any employer even at his first job as a cart boy at Tilden Park Golf Course. He was dependable, good-natured and got along with everyone.
He will probably be most remembered for his unassuming nature which sometimes hid his intelligence, an uncanny memory, a wealth of knowledge and a quick dry wit. He continually amazed his friends and family with the cleverness of his perfectly timed remarks.
Mark is survived by his parents, Jane and Mike, brother Andy, grandmother Amy Duling, grandparents Don and Bonnie Hollingsworth and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family is comforted by the outpouring of love from friends and the community and the sharing by Mark's friends of wonderful stories, photos and beautiful messages.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1:00 pm at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1035 Carol Lane, Lafayette, CA.
