David Weatherford Obituary

David Gassner Weatherford

Tribute to David Gassner Weatherford...

At the early age of twenty-four, David died, at home, in Sausalito, on May 27. He died of natural causes and had suffered from multiple illnesses. David was caring, sensitive and perceptive beyond his years. His loss will be felt profoundly by family and friends.

Between 2009 to 2012, David first served as an administrative intern at the City of Sausalito and then was employed there, where he recruited and oversaw volunteers in a project to digitize city records for improved transparency and better citizen access to information. He also heIped review the status of an accumulation of committees and joined in the annual recognition of local students of high achievement. Impressed by the civil servants with whom he worked, his interest in public policy deepened. After receiving an AA degree from the College of Marin, where he majored in Political Science, he planned for a career in Public Administration; he continued his learning on line and had been expecting to complete his college career at U.C. Davis beginning this summer.

David is survived by his father, Gary D. Weatherford; his mother, Dr. Suzanne Gassner Weatherford; his brother, Ted Weatherford; his uncle and aunt, Henry Gassner and Betty Chia Karro of Washington, D.C.; his aunt, Betty Gassner of Greensboro, North Carolina; and aunt and uncle, Drs. Claudine Weatherford and Timothy Wyant of Peak's Island, Maine.

David left behind other family and many friends who meant much to him, including especially Caroline De Lone, his beloved companion at the time he died.

Two memorial services will be held. The first will be a ticketed musical evening, organized by Caroline De Lone, on Tuesday, August 11, from 5 to 7 pm, at the Sweetwater in Mill Valley. It will be a benefit to raise funds for two non-profits David greatly admired. Further information is available at the web site for the Richard De Lone Special Housing Project, www.rdshp.org and The New Leader Scholarship, www.newleaderscholarship.org.

David's parents are planning the second memorial, which will be held on Sunday, September 13, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Osher Marin JCC, 200 Pedro Road, San Rafael.

Dear David's Memory......
I just learned of your passing, and it is so hard to believe! When you were first born, even at such a tiny size, you brought with you a giant happiness!
My husband, Ed and I were so close to your parents, we awaited your birth with hearts of joy! Then through the years, we were far away, but we had little glimpses of your wonderful life! We got to see you do break dancing at your Bar Mitzvah, and now, I will always keep you in my heart at that happy moment of time.
Our deep love and sympathy to Gary and Suzanne.

We at Step One School, David's preschool, are deeply saddened to hear of his passing. What an extraordinary little boy he was, with the most wonderful parents! We remember that beautiful picture of him holding the pumpkin. We hold David, and all those he touched, in our hearts. Friends forever. With unending love and compassion for all of you, Sue Britson

David was the most loving, Amazing, Kind hearted person I'd ever met. He always put others before himself, And would never hurt a fly..Well, That's a lie. He hated flies and openly admitted that he was a professional fly swatter, But that's besides the point. Of course I'm biased because he's forever my favorite person in the world and the best friend I'd ever had/The person I really thought would be in my life forever. But he truly was the most amazing person I'd ever met in my life, And will continue to be that person. David, I love you so much, To the moon and back X infinite+23 because +1 isn't good enough, You'll forever be in my heart. <3
