Patrick James Lovaglia Dec. 10, 1927 - March 6, 2010 Resident of Castro Valley Loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, born December 10, 1927, in San Jose, CA, passed away unexpectedly March 6, 2010 at the age of 82. Patrick was a long time resident of Castro Valley, CA. Patrick is survived by one sister, Rose Rivera of San Jose; one brother, Anthony Lovaglia of San Jose, CA; one daughter, Melanie Hitchcock of Jamul, CA; three sons, Christopher Peters of Carmichael, CA; Dan Peters and his wife, Kim, of Livermore, CA, and Thomas Peters and his wife, Linda, of Carmichael, CA; loved as daughters Deborah Munday-Brown and husband, Darin, of Ventura, CA, and Victoria Allenbaugh and husband, Russ, of Folsom, CA; eleven grandchildren, four great-grand-children, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by his loving wife of twenty eight years, Janet. Patrick served in the Air Force after which he earned his BS from San Jose State, and his MS in mathematics from San Francisco State. He spent his career as a teacher, coach, and administrator within the Hayward and Castro Valley School Districts, and Eden Area ROP. "Pat" was well liked by his students, fellow teachers, and administrative peers. He was, and remained till his passing, quite influential in the young lives around him. Pat was an avid golfer, and thoroughly loved playing with family and friends. He was also past president of the Lions Club, Castro Valley Chapter. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Friday, March 19, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 1836 B Street, Hayward. This man was the most patient, sweet-tempered, effective math teacher I ever had. (Well, except for Mr. Brown at Earl Warren Jr. High. But he was baller.) I wish only that I had been wise enough many years ago to find him and tell him that even many decades I still think of him and am grateful for his effect on my life.

I was fortunate to have Pat Lovaglia as my teacher for freshman algebra at Castro Valley High School. Even though math was not my favorite subject, I found that under his tutelage, I actually enjoyed it and learned a lot! He made learning so enjoyable and treated us with respect. The best part is that I found I wanted to do well not just for me but so that he would know he was doing his job well! The other day, I was saddened to see the news of his death in the Castro Valley Forum. That night, I went to CVHS to attend a presentation for parents of incoming freshmen. My daughter has struggled in math as I did, and I sincerely hope she is lucky enough to have as dedicated an algebra teacher as I did. (I have even told her about Mr. Lovaglia.) After the presentation, I walked down "B" wing where I first met Pat Lovaglia and said a prayer in his memory.

PAT'S PASSING IS A SHOCK TO ALL WHO KNEW HIM. HE WAS INTELIGENT,PERSONABLE
AND A FRIEND TO ALL.WE WERE GREAT PALS IN SAN JOSE. MANY WERE THE TIMES WHEN I VISITED THE HOUSE ON GREGORY ST.WHEN WE LEFT HIS MON ALWAYS SAID:"BE GOOD BOYS". ALSO, TONY WAS A GREAT BIG BRO.

Dear Family of Pat Lavalgia: Pat and I have been friends since first meeting in Hayward many years ago. Although I haven't lived in the Hayward area since the late '60s, Pat and I kept in touch. He will be missed by all his friends. My heartfelt condolences go out to his wonderful family.
