Chancey Scotese Laine, formerly of Montclair, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 30, 2013, on her 84th birthday. Presently residing in Brick, she had lived in Ocean County since 1976. Chancey had retired from DPT in Lakewood, previously having worked for Paco Laboratories. Prior to moving to Ocean County, Chancey had been employed as a Paste-up Artist at Redmond Press in Denville. As a teenager she volunteered as a candy striper at the local hospital and also worked at the telephone company. Five foot two with eyes of blue, Chancey was a nurturing person, always putting everyone's needs before hers. She was optimistic about life and faced its everyday challenges. She enjoyed playing Bingo, bus trips to Atlantic City, and watching sports, including golf, tennis, baseball, and football, especially the New York Giants. She also enjoyed all types of music and loved to sing and dance, even in her slippers.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rocco and Mary Caggiano Scotese. Surviving are her beloved husband of 63 years, Michael Joseph Laine who she met at the age of 14; her loving sister, Phyllis Stivala of Bloomfield; her devoted daughter, Catherine Mary Laine DeCastro and husband Theodore Patrick, and the light of her life, her cherished grandson, Christopher Michael DeCastro.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4 at the Church of the Epiphany, Theile Road, Brick. Entombment will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Chancey's memory to Shorrock Gardens Care Center of Brick, Alzheimer's Research Foundation, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
