Richard Castaldi Obituary

Richard Castaldi Resident of Oakley Richard Frank Castaldi, 53, of Oakley passed away peacefully on October 28 after a short, yet hard fought battle with cancer. 'Rick' was born and raised in San Mateo, CA. For over 20 years, he owned S&R Produce on the San Francisco peninsula. In 2000, he moved to Oakley, and worked with financial investments to allow him more time with his family. Rick is survived by his wife of 21 years, Valerie, daughter Ashley, and son RJ; his mother Lorraine Castaldi of Oakley; and his brother Michael Castaldi of San Ramon. Rick will be missed by his nine nieces and nephews. Rick remained loyal to friends from the San Francisco Produce Market, high school, and others he met in the East Bay. Rick loved the Green Bay Packers and Jimi Hendrix. Rick's son was diagnosed with Autism and as a result, he and Valerie became active in their community to help families of special needs children. Rick was a constant companion to RJ and he had a special bond with Ashley. He was so proud of their achievements. A private service to celebrate Rick will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, November 5. Please call 925-597-0868 for more information.

He was one of my best friends growing up through grade school and high school Rick And Scotty Reavis called ourselves the three amigos. I just recently found out about his passing and deeply saddened. We lost contact after high school, but I found out he was living behind the Shell station that I was currently employed at, him and another friend Nelson Andrade. It was Nelson that informed me of his passing just a few months ago. I had been thinking prior to finding out about his passing and try to get a hold of him. Unfortunately things kept popping up and prevented it from happening. Rick will be sorely missed in my heart.

It was a blessing when Valerie ended up at my school as an aide. Little did I know that she would lead me to your family and to a group of friends that would help me and Jeff to find a group of kids that Cam could play sports with and find acceptance, just as he is. You were an incredible coach -- both on the field and off. Your patience was admired by so many. And the dedication you, Val, and Ashley have in helping kids play sports is admirable. I am blessed that I was able to call you friend. I love your family and am in awe of their strength. There is love all around them. We miss seeing you but find comfort in knowing that you're keeping a close eye on everything from Heaven.

Rick we were all family for so many years. You were always smiling and ready to help whoever needed it when you could. I like to think Rob was waiting to greet you at Heaven's gate when you arrived. I know he always thought a lot of you too. Your children and Val will forever remember the life and love you shared. You were an inspiration to many. I have attached a favorite picture of you with my son's and your friend at a golf tournament. This is how we will forever remember you....a smile on your face. Now you smile with God and the angels.
