Richard Horan Obituary

Richard "Bubba" Francis Horan May 2, 1940 - March 18, 2007 Resident of Walnut Creek Beloved husband of Marilyn Horan, brother of James Horan and wife Peggy, proud and loving father of Col. Richard Horan, Barbara Schneider-Mergens, and Bob Horn. Father-in-law to Barbara, Jim and Patrice. He was a devoted and loving grandfather of Jean, Michelle, Kori, Kelli, Britani, and Ashley. He was born in San Francisco and graduated in 1958 from Archbishop Riordan High School. He was proud of his accomplishments as 1st string All City football guard. He was later inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. He helped run the family business in his early career and later owned a number of small businesses. He enjoyed hunting and fishing; his beloved 49ers and Giants; the GOP; and telling a good joke. Later in life he was an avid senior tennis player and enjoyed playing and competing with his friends at both the Big C and Pleasant Hill tennis clubs. He took great pride in his family and celebrated the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at 12:00 noon at Oak Park Hills Chapel, 3111 N. Main St., Walnut Creek, CA. Bubba took me under his wing as a fledgling tennis player and offered to share his extensive knowledge. He would come out to College Park High School, even when he wasn't feeling well, and sit in a chair courtside, coach and tell jokes. He was hilarious. Bubba had a big heart. He was a person who made indelible memories for the people who were lucky enough to meet him. Rest in Peace Bubba. I'll miss you!

I always liked playing doubles with Bubba, but I think the only reason he chose me was cuz I would chase down the lobs over his head.

I'm gonna miss his friendship and story telling.

We and a select few others share special memories of Big C's first tennis program. It was the beginning of a good friendship and all the other social happenings that sprouted from it through the coming years. Give Natalie a big hug when you see her.

I would like to offer sincere condolences to the Horan family. Although I had only met Mr. Horan once, the fact that he has raised such a fine family, is a testimony to what a fine man he was.

Bob, Patrice and the rest of the family, I know he will be missed and I pray that the comforting arms of the Lord will surround and comfort you in the days to come.

Bob, I know that will miss your conversations with your Dad, but he is still there. You just have to listen a little harder for the answers.

Much love,

Gregory Treat
