Robert Vogel Obituary

Robert Wayne Vogel February 2, 1922 - May 18, 2003 Robert Wayne Vogel passed away at his home in Martinez on Sunday, May 18 following a lengthy illness. He was born and raised in San Francisco and graduated from Balboa High School. He is survived by his beloved wife, Irma, of 53 years; loving daughter Gloria Jean Lamanna of Concord; brother, Dr. Jerald Vogel of Murphys, CA; sisters, Dorothy Jensen of Sebastopol, Judith Vogel of Nevada City; grandson, Derek Gross of Bandon, OR and granddaughter, Deena Gonsalves of Douglasville, GA; a great grandson and great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He owned and operated a grocery store in Point Richmond for seven years before going into the manufacturing business of household products where he owned and operated E-Z-EST Products in Oakland for 25 years before retiring. He served in the US Navy in World War II as Boatswains Mate First Class and as an instructor, serving in the South Pacific, Gilbert Islands, Marshall Islands, Tarawa and on the USS Hornet. At age 65, he received his pilots' license, purchased a plane and flew many times with his wife in CA and Mexico. They also traveled extensively around the world. He was quite a hunter and has many of his prized trophies displayed in his den. He was a member of Sons in Retirement Branch #116 of Walnut Creek where he also belonged to the men's golf group. A man of great dignity and pride. Not many people knew it but he was a poet at heart. Even his closest friends were not aware of the book of poetry written to his wife. Typically, he avoided comments about himself. Memorial Services: Thursday, May 29, 2003, 1:00 till 4:00 p.m., San Pablo Moose Lodge #550, 13233 San Pablo Avenue, San Pablo, CA 94806, (510) 234-5737.
