Resident of Fremont
Born to Morris and Alice Wasserman in Gary, Indiana, moved to Los Angeles, CA at age three.
He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Cal State Los Angeles and master's degree in Public Administration at USC.
Bob joined the Army at an early age and served in Japan and Korea. He joined the Montebello Police Department in 1954. Bob met married the love of his life Linda at the City Hall in 1958. His son Daniel was born in 1963 and daughter Jill in 1966. In 1969 the family moved to San Carlos, Ca where Bob served as Chief of Police. In 1972 the family relocated back south were Bob served as Chief of Police in Brea/Yorba Linda. In 1976 the family returned north to Fremont, where he remained Chief of Police until his retirement 1992.
Since his retirement from law enforcement, Bob continued his service to the city of Fremont through consecutive terms on the city council. Bob was elected to the City Council in 1992 and has served as the mayor since 2004.
Bob is survived by wife Linda; son daughter-in-law Dan and Wendee Wasserman of Scotts Valley; daughter and son-in-law Jill and Kirk Fonte of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; the loves-of-his-life grandchildren Shelby and Shane Fonte and Oskar and Willow Wasserman; brothers Ron and Ted; nieces and nephews Barbara, Mike, Lisa and Larry Wasserman of Southern CA.
Bobs accomplishment and affiliations are too numerous to mention.
Bobs leadership style was gentle, kind and compassionate, patiently listening to all sides of a scenario and making the fairest decision he could based on the facts.
Bob loved the Dodgers, playing bridge, ethnic (or any kind) of food, but most of all Thursdays Fridays spent with his cherished Oskar Willow.

Memorial service will be held 4:00 PM, Friday, January 6, at Harbor Lights Church, 4760 Thornton Ave, Fremont, 94536
