Robert "Bob" Henry Wright peacefully passed away with his family at his side and his beloved dog, Rosie, on his lap after years of battling heart disease. Bob was the only child of Lydia E. of Belle Plain, MN., and Robert J. of Hanna, WY. Bob was born and raised in Oakland, CA and graduated from Oakland Tech High School in 1962. After graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served btw 1962-1966. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, the Philippines, and served in the Vietnam War with 2/11 of the 1st Marine Division. He earned the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged.
After the war, Bob returned to Oakland to work at Judson Steel where his match-making foreman introduced Bob to his daughter, Gloria. Bob and Gloria were married in 1972, raised two daughters, and were happily married for thirty-five years until Gloria's passing in 2007. Bob had a forty-year career working for various airlines at the Oakland Airport. In 2012 Bob retired as an A&P Aircraft Mechanic from Alaska Airlines after twenty-five years of service.
In retirement Bob was a member of the Marine Corps League, Vietnam Veterans of Diablo Valley, and volunteered weekly as a docent at the Danville Veterans Building. Bob had many joys in life; working on his Mustang, watching sports, gardening, playing bocce ball, and chatting with neighbors over a beer. Though, his greatest joy was being Papa Bob to his three grandchildren. Bob is proceeded in death by his parents, wife, and brother-in-law, Dan. He is survived by daughters Elizabeth (Dan) Lundmark and Diana (Brian) Aveson, grandchildren; Robert "Bobby," Lydia, and Noelle, sister-in-law, Fran, and his adored nieces and nephews.
Bob will honorably be laid to rest with Gloria at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette in mid-June.
