ROLAND HOUSTON CHIVERS December 15, 2003 at his home in Lake Isabella, California. He is survived by his mother Beulah Ruth Chivers, two brothers, Clarence William Chivers and Morgan Adell "Tony" Chivers, two sisters, Patsy Jones & Mamie Graber and a son. Michael Houston Chivers. He also had two granddaughters, Julia Rosaline Chivers and Amy Rose Chivers and many nieces & nephews. Roland was born in Visalia, California on May 1, 1929. The family later moved to Watsonville and finally to Niles, California where Roland attended school. Roland graduated from Washington High School in 1948 and served 6 years in the Army at Fort Richardson and later a Big Delta , Alaska. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1954 at the rank of Sergeant. After returning to California, Roland attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and later worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. In 1962, he married Audrey Delores Smith Chivers. During his career as a heavy equipment mechanic, Roland worked at Gorda, California making numerous improvement to the coastal property there. He later moved to Nipomo, California working as a farm hand. Roland finally moved to Los Angeles and went to work for the Department of Water and Power. Working as a tire specialist, Roland was responsible for several inventions and innovations including a coolant reclamation system and a more efficient oil filter disposal system. He was very active in LADWP's Quality Circle process and participated in the installation of on-site alignment facilities and overhead fluid supply systems. Roland was also an avid hobbyist and enjoyed working on bonsai plants and collecting spoons, silver and china for his granddaughters. He retired from the Department of Water and Power in 1998. He had just recently purchased a home in Lake Isabella and was excited about transforming it into a garden spot and vacation resort for his family. A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m., Saturday, January 17 at Callaghan's in
