ROSALIE MAHAKIAN

Daughter of Ovagim & Elizabeth Hagopian died suddenly and peacefully on February 10, 2007 at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, California, after suffering a massive stroke & heart attack. She was born July 7, 1922 in Fresno, California and has resided in Castro Valley for 65 years. She was the widow of Gregory Mahakian who died in 1965. She attended Dinuba High School where she was active in the Entertainment Club, then graduated from Reedley College. She received her bachelors degree from the University of California at Berkeley and taught at the same San Leandro elementary school for 32 years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Oakland Art Museum where she did volunteer work & art projects. She was an artist in her own right, taking art classes, painting landscapes, animals & abstracts. She even had a few showings where she sold some of her paintings. She was very active in St. Vartan's Apostolic Armenian Church in Oakland. She served on the Parish Council, Womens Executive Board & was Maintenance Chairperson. If any electrical work, painting, etc was necessary at the church, Rosalie was in charge of contacting the right people & getting the best price. Rosalie was a world traveler. She traveled to Europe (including a trip to Armenia), South America, & Africa where she flew over Victoria Falls. She took shorter trips to the Ozarks, Hawaii, Cape Cod, Washington, D.C., the Rockies & many other places. Rosalie showed God's love in her daily life. To know her was to know God, as she was a true example of God's love on earth. during her teaching career, she rewrote numerous children's textbooks. She was very active in golf, tennis, swimming, winter sports, too. She was an excellent cook, had a great snese of humor & loved to dance. She was very youthful & energetic. Her family was very special to her. Rosalie is survived & dearly missed by three siblings, Dick Hagopian, Deron Hagopian & Blanche Hagopian. She had many nieces & nephews including Patty Sadoian her oldest sister's daughter. She is survived by three step children, Wendy Merrill, Marissa Potter, Greg Mahakian, their children & six grandchildren & a large extended family of dear friends including Paul Mickle, her longtime close friend & companion. In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to: St. Vartan's Armenian Church or the Echmiadzin Children's Fund.
Friends are invited to attend her Funeral on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at St. Vartan Armenian Church, 650 Spruce St., Oakland. Visitation Tuesday 9:00 A.M. to 8:30 P.M. at SANTOS-ROBINSON MORTUARY, 160 Estudillo Ave., San Leandro.

She was a excellent person I met her on Hayward Arts Council she was an active member/volunteer, the last project she did as a member of Hayward Arts Council was trip to Monet in Normandy (SF)last year.
