Roy Claxton Obituary

Roy C. Claxton Retired Businessman Resident of Kentfield Marin County businessman and longtime Marin resident Roy C. Claxton died unexpectedly on October 25th, 2009. He was 79 years old. Mr. Claxton Graduated from St. Mathews Grammar School in 1943, San Mateo High in 1947, San Mateo Junior College in 1949, and finished his formal education at U.C. Berkeley where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He went on to become a successful businessman in Northern California's residential and commercial construction industry. In 1959 Roy Claxton and Hal Weiss, while they were residing in the Eichler Highlands of San Mateo, founded the general contracting firm of 20th Century Homes. Their first Project was the development of Wayne Court in Redwood City, after which they became one of the first builders in San Carlos Estates. Subsequently, they moved their families and the business to Marin County where Mr. Claxton has continued to reside. Mr. Claxton was always proud of his heritage as a native Californian, second generation San Franciscan, and member of the National Society of Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Claxton's many accomplish-ments were listed in the 1981/82 edition of Who's Who in California. He was an astute investor and gave generously to various charitable causes. He was a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and a descendant of Aaron Prater of Prince George, Maryland, circa 1710. Mr. Claxton was the beloved son of Rosebud Claxton, San Mateo, and brother of Carol Nelson of Foster City. His father Roy Claxton Sr. owned auto garages up and down the West Coast. He is survived by his beloved wife Mariel of Kentfield, four grown sons, William, David, Jeffrey and James; 12 grandchildren, Jason, Henry, Aaron, Stefan, Nicole, Allison, Brittney, Lucas, Charlie, Hunter, Gray and Taylour; 2 step children, Caroline and Peter; and 3 great grand children. Friends are invited to the funeral mass on November 3rd at 11am at St. Anselm's Church in Ross and burial and reception thereafter at Fernwood Cemetery in Mill Valley. Donations may be made to the Roy C. Claxton Student Aid Fund at the College of Marin Foundation, P.O. Box 446, Kentfield, CA 94914.

Roy, Mariel and Billl and myself had may great times together. We traveled, played golf and bridge together and always looked forward to fourth of July when he would have us to dinner at his home in Mt. Shasta for his special spare rib treat.

I am thankful to have had the opportunity to meet and know Roy. He was very supportive of my entrepreneurial endeavors and our business. He was a leader in the community and worked tirelessly to assist others. I will miss Roy and feel blessed to have known him over the past fifteen years.
