RUSSELL HAGERSTRAND Obituary

Russell Gilbert Hagerstrand Sr. Oct. 21, 1916- Dec. 8, 2012 Resident of Alamo Russell was born in Chicago, Il. Early in his life, his family moved to Waukesha, Wis. In 1948, he moved his family to Concord, Ca and to Clayton, Ca in 1950. He was employed as a grocery clerk for Purity Stores and Louis Stores where he retired as an Assistant Manager. He moved to Alamo in 1965. He and his second wife Fran were short wave radio operators and volunteered for the Co.Co. Sheriffs Dept. organizing community meetings teaching Crime Prevention to neighborhood groups. After Fran's death, he met and married Jane Amaral in 1980. She passed away in 2010. Russ was a long time member of the Alamo Improvement Association and an organizer of the yearly Alamo Jazz Festival. In 1996, he was recognized as the "Citizen of the Year" by the city of Alamo. He is survived by his 5 sons and 1 daughter- Russell Jr. (Lodi, Ca), Allen (Pleasant Hill, Ca), David (Concord, Ca), Hal and Judy (Benson, Az), Carol and Ed Paulson (Martinez, Ca), Colin and Kathy (Vallejo, Ca). He is also survived by stepdaughters and stepsons, Patty and Don Reisner (Burbank, Ca), Boyd and Mari Burnison (Diablo, Ca), Frank Amaral (Alamo, Ca), Bill Amaral (Bay Point, Ca). He has 18 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for immediate family. Donations may be sent to the American Heart Association.
