Ruth Lobb Obituary
Feb. 19, 1921 - June 7, 2008 Resident of Castro Valley Louise, as she is known by family and friends was born Feb. 19, 1921 to Frank and Eva Owens in Cloverdale Oregon and passed from us June 7, 2008 in Carlsbad California. Louise and her twin were the youngest of seven children; all have preceded her in death including her twin who died at the age of one and a half years. Louise grew up on a dairy farm and told wonderful stories of her childhood, she remembers helping both her mother and father with chores, hard work yet also fun. One thing she helped her dad with was to stop the traffic on Hwy 101 which runs through Cloverdale while her father crossed the cows to go home from the fields. Louise's parents always had a hymnal in the car and one of her favorite memories was singing harmony with her parents on long car trips. Louise also had many fond memories before the days of television, playing baseball in the cow pasture, beach parties, taffy pulls and riding on the handlebars of her boyfriend's bicycle Louise graduated from Nestucca High School in Cloverdale; she attended reunions up until just four years ago. After school she married William Gilbert of Beaver, Oregon. Shortly after marriage, WWII interrupted their life in Oregon and Louise followed Bill to Air Force bases in, New Mexico, S. Dakota, Wisconsin and Illinois working different jobs in each city. After the war the couple returned to Waldport Oregon eventually settling in Portland, Oregon where Louise worked at Meir and Frank for 16 years, as the Revlon representative. In 1965 Louise married Orville Lobb of Oakland, California. Moving so far from family made it a difficult move for Louise. She and Orville settled in Castro Valley, California where they resided for over 40 years. It wasn't long before Louise made many new and cherished friends in her new home. Louise was very active in her church from fund raising events to creating beautiful decorations for holiday seasons. Louise was incredibly creative and could make or fix just about anything, you could hand her a box top and she could make something functional or decorative out of it. She loved working with plants and made wonderful topiaries and could get any cutting to grow into a beautiful plant. Louise loved to entertain and was a gracious hostess. Louise and Orville traveled all over the United States and the World were Louise would collect friends who she kept in touch with regularly. Louise volunteered for charitable organizations and was an active member of the P.E.O. She lived her life devoted to God and Family. Louise was preceded in death by her beloved Orville on September 27, 2007, also preceding her in death her niece Margaret Sayres, and nephews Howard and William Owens and Jack Russell Louise will be missed dearly and is survived by step children Ann Gomez, Orville Lobb, and Ellen Collins, nieces Nancy Handorf, Louise Johnson, Marcella Hatfield and nephews Frank Owens and Tom Russell, grandchildren; Lena Paredes, Eric Gomez, Danny, Dawn and Dean Collins.
