Samuel Yates Obituary
March 18, 1933—Nov. 10, 2021
Resident of Walnut Creek
Born in Riverside, CA. Sam graduated from San Jose State University, class of 1955 with Great Distinction and Departmental Honors. He was a member of several Honor Societies and served as Commander of the ROTC. He graduated from The Securities Industry Institute at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and later served several years on the Board of Directors of the school. He served as International President of Delta Upsilon Fraternity.
He was named "Man of the Year" in San Jose, CA and Garden City, NY and served as Co-Chairman of the District Business Conduct Committee of The National Association of Securities Dealers. His Military service was with the 2nd Armored Division of the US Army. Sam was a long time active member of the California State Cancer Society as well as a supporter of the Ruth Bancroft Garden, California Symphony and San Francisco Chamber Music.
Sam's business career of over 50 years took him from account manager in San Jose, CA to Branch manager in Reno, NV, then Garden City, NY and two offices in San Francisco. For four years he was National Training Director for Dean Witter. He retired after serving as Senior Vice President of Investments for RBC Wealth Management.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, DawnMarie and their daughters; Anna Krain (Jason), Jo Johnson (Greg), Denise Yates and Belinda Yates and Grandsons Cody Johnson (Mary Ella) and Mason Johnson.
A celebration of his life will be held April 9 @ 5:00 PM in the Ruth Bancroft Garden, Walnut Creek.
