Shirley Hutchinson Obituary

Shirley Hutchinson July 30, 1924-Aug. 20, 2013 Resident of Bay Area Shirley passed away peacefully on Aug. 20, 2013 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Shirley was born in Oakland to Earl and Elsie Jeffs and was raised in Alameda. She graduated from Alameda High School in 1942 and attended Cal until going to work at the Alameda Naval Air Station during the war. In 1946 she married Walter "Hutch" Hutchinson; together they had a long and happy marriage until his death in 1999. In 1952 they moved first to Pleasant Hill, then to Concord and finally in 1976 to Alamo. Shirley returned home to Alameda in 2006. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, her brother Harry Jeffs, and her husband Hutch. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Craig Roberts of Alameda; and her son and daughter-in-law John and Suzanne Hutchinson of Danville. She is also survived by her four beloved grandchildren: Glen Roberts, Corinne Roberts, Sam Hutchinson and Peter Hutchinson. Shirley was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful homemaker as well as working for long periods with Kaiser Hospital and EBMUD. She never had an unkind word for anyone and no one ever spoke an unkind word of her. There will be a Celebration of Life on Oct. 6, 2013 from 2-4 pm at the Garden Isle Clubhouse, 1060 Melrose Ave, Alameda, CA 94501. Cremation and Internment were private. Donations may be made in Shirley's honor to Alzheimer's Association of Northern California.
