Steve Chrissanthos Obituary

Steve George Chrissanthos July 27, 1927 - May 9, 2011 Alameda Longtime Alameda resident Steve Chrissanthos passed away at the age of 83. He is survived by Zetta his wife of 46 years, daughter Kalee of Redondo Beach, son Stefan and daughter-in-law Dawn of Torrance, and two grandchildren Korena and Nikolaos. He is also survived by his sister Helen Haris, nieces Merry Cheonis and Stephanie Krames, and nephews Lee Haris, John Zuras and George and Stacey Papagiannis. He was predeceased by sisters Nica Papagiannis and Mary Zuras. Steve was born in Oakland in 1927 to Greek immigrants George and Kalle Chrissanthos. He graduated from Fremont High in 1945, and earned a Business Degree from San Jose State University in 1950. In between, he spent two years in the United States Army (1945-1947). He eventually moved to Alameda where he joined his brother-in-law George Zuras and longtime friend Mike Placourakis to own and operate the Grand Market grocery store and the Alameda Cellars liquor stores for more than 40 years. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and great sense of humor, and for his love and devotion to his family and friends. A Trisayion (memorial service) will be held at the Ascension Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Oakland, where he was a lifelong member of the congregation, on Saturday, May 28 at 11am, 4700 Lincoln Avenue, Oakland.

Hi Zetta....we were so sorry to hear about Steve. I know it is so hard to lose someone you love as much as your husband. You were very lucky to have each other for as long as you did. I hope it brings you some comfort to know that he is not sick or suffering any longer. I am glad you have wonderful friends there and that your kids are close by.
