Sue Combs Obituary

Survived by sisters Patricia, Karen and Judy, and preceded by her 2 brothers Fred and Gordon, Sue was born in countryside outside of Dayton Ohio to Gordon and Martha Combs. Her family soon moved to Kentucky where Sue grew into a bright, happy and musical bundle of energy. An accomplished pianist, Sue kept music as a joy in her life. After graduating Morehead State University with a degree in Home Economics, Sue and her bestie Brenda decamped to Michigan to start their careers. She landed in Detroit which was soon exploding with riots. Change of plans, as California beckoned. Landing in Hayward, Sue joined the staff of Hayward High as a Home EC instructor as well as a Ski and Tennis Coach. Her fellow teachers and students remember her as creative, energetic and a comic. She always had a story that brought peals of laughter. And she had a heart and disposition as golden as her hair. She was devoted to her Kentucky family, visiting them often, and enjoying her growing tribe of nieces and nephews. And she always retained that fab Kentucky drawl. She loved traveling, and had no fear even in the darkest passageways of Marrakesh or the heat of the Acropolis. As life progressed she moved to Richmond, bought her first property and then found her dream home and new friends on the Richmond Shoreline. There she stayed for many years, loved by her neighbors and friends for her kindness and generosity. Tennis was a favorite pastime, with many afternoons and weekends spent at the Marin Tennis Club. Never married, she adopted all of her friend's children. Unfortunately, she followed her mother's footsteps into the terrors of Dementia, but passed peacefully on August 13, 2022.
