Thomas Hussey Obituary

Thomas Daniel Hussey Sept. 14, 1930 - Nov. 9, 2004 Tom passed away at his Pleasant Hill home with his faithful wife and best friend at his side. He had been ill since January. Tom was born and raised in Hayward. He graduated from Hayward High in 1948 where he played football. He entered the US Navy while he still was only 17. He served during the Korean War assigned to aircraft carriers and mine sweepers. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He attended San Jose State and graduated from the University of San Francisco. Tom was a Hayward Police Officer, attaining the rank of Detective. He left Hayward P.D. and went to work for the Pleasant Hill Police Department, where he retired in 1983 with the rank of Sergeant. Tom was the son of Irish immigrants Daniel and Margaret Hussey. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane, his daughter, Peggy, and son, Tom. He also leaves his grandchildren, Shannon, Tommy, Katie and Brennan. Tom is also survived by two loyal brothers, Dennis and Bill, and several nieces, cousins and many lifetime friends. His brother, Jack and Jim, sister, Nora, and his parents preceded him in death. Tom and Diane traveled a lot visiting family in Ireland and Wales, where a lot of the family from Ireland immigrated to. He recently had a newborn nephew named after him in Wales. He was so very proud of this, having just been told of this before his passing. Tom was one of the main pillars of the Hussey family. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Friends are invited to attend a 2pm Rosary service on Sunday, November 14, at Machado's Hillside Chapel, 1051 Harder Rd., Hayward.
