Wayne Siligo Obituary

Wayne R. Siligo
June 6, 1943 - February 15, 2022
Resident of Alameda, CA
A long time resident of Alameda and Alameda Elks lodge member, Wayne was a prolific professional musician who played a multiplex of instruments, guitar being his number one love. Wayne was known throughout the Bay Area and played at many top restaurants and events. He was most proud of his 39 years spent teaching at California School for the Blind where among other subjects, he shared his passion for music and teaching with his students. Many of his students play in bands and perform professionally. Some of Wayne's fans may not have even known he was blind but his ears were as keen as an eagle's vision. During one of his last driveway performances for his neighbors, Wayne shared that he never appreciated his blindness being referred to as a disability. He viewed it as a blessing as his hearing adapted to notice the little delights that most take for granted. His distinct ability to add subtle touches to his music made it come alive and bring people to tears. Wayne performed his last neighborhood mini-concert a week before his death. He gently passed with his biggest fan next to him, his loving wife Janet. Wayne was pre-deceased by his mother Alice Bass, father Jack Oliver, daughter Julie, step son Christopher Lucasey and nephews Marty and Scott Barrett. He is survived by his wife Janet, his son Tony and his step sons Charles and John Lucasey, his sister Barbara Barrett and nephew Duke Barrett. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. Services will be held at St. Joseph's Basilica Thursday, February 24th at 11am with music provided by one of his protege students, Michael Denten. All are welcome to attend.

Wayne was always a bright spot during my time teaching at CSB. We so enjoyed his concerts, both on campus and at conferences. My deepest condolences to his entire extended family. I hope to play with him in heaven. Until then, we will miss him here on earth.

A tree is being planted in Wayne's memory, via GreerMortuary.com's Tribute Wall, with the following tribute:
"To Wayne Siligo, the great planter, cultivator, and nurturer of love and light and hope, in gratitude for all that you have given us.
And in comfort and solace to Janet, Tony, and the Barrett and Lucasey Families"

My memories of Wayne are from his many years of coming with the School for the Blind band to the Holiday Party for the California Department of Education in Sacramento. It became a tradition that they would be there, a real treat to hear and watch the delightful musicians with their band leader and teacher Wayne Silago. His love of what he did was evident in the hearing and the seeing of their music and faces during their performances. I attended every year and sat in the room where one could always see a few dancers unable to sit still. Wayne Silago was so dedicated and most talented. Makes the best teachers and band leaders. Heartfelt thoughts to his family and CSB family.
