William Betts Obituary

WILLIAM "BILL" BETTS Bill Betts, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and friendly helper to many, passed away in his sleep on October 23, 2006. He was 70 years old. "Gramps", as his four Grandsons knew him, loved nothing more than to spoil them rotten. Although it was said that he started the "curse" that left the family bereft of Daughters or Granddaughters, it made no difference to him. His legacy was five Sons and four Grandsons, that was good enough for him. His love in that legacy carries on in his spirit and our cherished memory. Son of George and Sybyl Betts, the middle of three children, he is survived by his older sister Georgia of Visalia, and younger sister Carla of Discovery Bay. After time in the Army, Bill married in 1959 to Helen Leonard, of Highland Park Illinois, choosing to live in California. They raised a family of five boys, David, Scott (deceased) Brian, Douglas, and Kevin. His beloved wife, Helen passed away in 1997. Bill took great pride in his professional life, working for many years in the hardware trade, many as a manager for Orchard Supply Hardware. He could play as hard as he worked though, with a great sense of humor and an easygoing manner. He had a great passion for his Eastbay sports teams, the Raiders and the Athletics, and followed them diligently. They lost a great fan, we lost a great father, we will all miss you. Family and friends are invited to attend a Vigil Service October 26th at 7:00 p.m. with visitation from 2:00-8:00 p.m. held at Berge-Pappas-Smith Chapel of the Angels, 40842 Fremont Blvd., Fremont. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m,. Friday, October 27th, held at Our lady of Guadalupe Parish, 40382 Fremont Blvd., Fremont. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward, CA, For further information please call:

I was saddened to learn of the passing of my friend Bill. I had the pleasure of working with Bill at Standard Brands Paint in Hayward. We became fast friends and shared many good times together. My sympathies and prayers go out to the family. We all will miss Bill very much.
Always remember the good times with loved ones!

I worked with Bill at the Hayward Standard Brands Paint on Jackon St.
I remember Don Edwards,Jim Baez,John O'Rouke,Rudy,Denny,Perta, and a host of others but I especially remember Bill. He was a good person whom I regret losing touch with.
My fondest memory was fixing the green Austin America for Bill and then going into the house to meet the family. It's been 37 or 38 years ago but the thing I remember the most was several pajama clad kids jumping on me to wrestle with.
Bill was in a state of shock and apologised profusely but all I could do was laugh because I thought it was neat and kids being kids..........John Moore

David, Brian, Doug and Kevin, Our prayers are with the fore of you in this time of need. It is never easy loosing a parent but please remember God is in charge and we are here for only a short period of time. “Uncle Bill” is back together with “Auntie Helen” and they must be celebrating. I know it wasn’t always easy growing up but just know that your Dad LOVED you all with everything he had and worked hard all his life (even in retirement) to do his best to provide for you 4 of you. I believe in my hart that “Uncle Bill” and “Auntie Helen” are looking down upon you right now and wishing that there was something they could do to help you all through this time and how proud they are of all of you. If there is anything Beth or I could do for you, pleas give us a call. May the Lord bless you all and keep you close to him especially in this troubled time.
