Bill Lund passed away peacefully at home at the age of 86. He was surrounded with the love of his family in his last days. Bill was the only child of the late William and Verna Lund. He was the proud father of Jeff (Rashmi), Tim (Wensday) and Jennifer Dye (John), and the best of all granddads to Ryan, Neal, Emily, Caiden, Julia, Cecilia and Sophia.Bill was born in
Alameda, CA and later moved with his parents to
Piedmont, CA where excelled as an honor student and track-and-field athlete. After graduation from Piedmont H.S. in 1954, he attended Yale University where he lived in Silliman College and majored in Labor Economics.While in college he was a member of the Navy Reserve.He loved his time at Yale and formed several lifelong friendships. Bill and his friends loved to engage in fun mischief while at Yale, including Bill making his own key to get them in and out of the main gates.After receipt of his B.A. in 1958, he was commissioned in the U.S. Navy as an Ensign and reported to the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-36) for duty as a Gunnery Officer.He separated from the Navy in 1967 at the rank of lieutenant. Bill worked for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company (later AT&T) for 30 years.In 1977 Bill received his MBA from St. Mary's College in their first Executive MBA class. After retiring from the phone company Bill worked as Business Manager for the Athenian School and later developed "The Consulting Group", working for various private schools. During his "retirement", Bill further explored his creative side as a woodworker and craftsman on countless projects around the house. Bill's attention to detail could be seen in his meticulous and well-written plans and sketches for all his projects.Bill met the love of his life, Colleen Lane Lund (Dougherty), as a member of the Eastern Colleges Dance Committee in 1962.They were married a short nine months later and would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this March 30th. Whenever Colleen would enter a room Bill's eyes would light up and his smile would grow.The love he had for her never wavered and was still present in his eyes and smile in his last days.A resident of Moraga since 1967, Bill was an active volunteer in the community and within his children's lives. He volunteered with the San Francisco Junior Chamber of Commerce, Indian Guides, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and as a soccer coach. He also remained active in both Piedmont HS and Yale alumni reunion and fundraising activities. Later, Bill was active in the Moraga Historical Society and the local chapter of SIR (Sons In Retirement) where he served as Big SIR. As world travelers, Bill and Colleen enjoyed visiting friends and meeting new friends on their numerous trips.They enjoyed many trips to England,a month-long Yale study program in Aix-en-Provence, France where Bill enjoyed expanding his French, and they also spent a month for their 50th anniversary in Greve in Chianti, Italy where they rented a villa to spend the time with friends and family. Bill had a love of comics, limericks, puns, ice cream, dark chocolate, Star Trek, and woodworking.He had a wonderful dry sense of humor and an amazing attention to detail in all that he did.The family would like to thank Bill's numerous caregivers, especially the fabulous Lup‚ Henderson, for their dedicated and thoughtful care during the last year of his life.Bill will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. His light will live within his family forever.
