Carl H. Thompson of Clovis, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at home with his family by his side. He was several weeks away from his 92nd birthday.
Carl was born on September 12, 1933, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Carl and Ruby Thompson. After graduating from high school in his hometown, he was married and shared 3 daughters with his first wife, Pat. Carl proudly served his country in the United State Air Force from 1954 to 1958. Following his service, Carl attended Midwestern University. In 1965, he began his long and dedicated career with the Social Security Administration. In 1971 he moved to Clovis to serve as branch manager, a role in which he impacted countless lives. He later lived in Lubbock, Texas for two years before returning to Clovis, where he remained for the rest of his life.
Carl was a man of many passions and endless energy. A lifelong runner, he competed in countless marathons and logged more than 100,000 miles over the course of three decades. He shared the same drive and love for life with his friends at the YMCA and the running community. His other great passion was fast cars – especially his beloved Porche, which he enjoyed driving and maintaining with pride.
Deeply committed to community, Carl was a member of Rotary for many years, where he served as president and other leadership roles. Carl also served on the Board of Directors at PRMC. Beyond his civic work, Carl loved to travel, especially to Mazatlán, Mexico, where he felt at home among friends who welcomed him like a local. Later in life, he developed a love for motorcycles and traveled many miles on his Goldwing with his little dog, Pepper.
Carl also cherished the simple joys of friendship. For many years after he retired, he gathered every morning at Roden Smith with a close group of friends for coffee and a morning motorcycle ride. That daily tradition became an important part of his life, filled with laughter, stories and camaraderie that he deeply valued. He loved spending time at Conchas Lake with his family, fishing, boating and drinking Mexican Beer and celebrating friends and family time on weekends.
Above all else, Carl was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. The childhood memories his daughter have include family vacations, camping trips, riding dirt bikes, watching the Dallas Cowboys, he was a diehard DALLAS COWBOY fan till the end. He treasured every moment with his 3 girls. Later in his life he was known lovingly as "Grandaddy Carl", he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and resilience.
Carl is survived by his daughters Carla Nuttall (Jack) of Clovis and Tina New of Conchas Dam, NM; his grandchildren Vanessa Miller (Shawn), Christopher Everett (Laura), Shannon Atencio (Will), Brannon New (Emilee), and Alex Everett (Jena); and his great-grandchildren Eve, Olen, Chloe, Mara, Aubrey, Kaya, Rainey, Micky, Bode, Charlotte, Luka and his nephew Buck Thompson (Kierston) of Ft Worth, Tx.
