Mary Lou (Boone) Mason Obituary

Funeral services for Mary Lou (Boone) Mason, 62, of Logan, NM, will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, December 26, 2011, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Randy Elfman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Logan Cemetery at 3:00 PM, with Rodger Mason, Troyce Boone, Alton Shields, Terrance Shields, Tyler Boone and Taylor Boone serving as pallbearers.  All of her loving family and her many friends will be honorary pallbearers.
Mary Lou was born December 26, 1948, in Hereford, TX, to the home of Betty Lou and Hiram Leon Perry and died after a valiant battle with liver disease on the evening of December 19, 2011, in Dallas, TX.  She was scheduled to receive a liver transplant in just a few weeks.  During the 15 months since her diagnosis, Mary Lou never complained or asked "Why me?"  All of her life she fought hard and made the best of whatever came her way.  Her family is very grateful to her husband, Rodger Mason for the loving care he gave her throughout her illness.
Mary Lou grew up in Causey, and graduated from Causey High School in 1966.  Being the oldest in a family of nine children, she helped her mother with all of her younger siblings when their father died.  In 1971, she was married to Terry Boone.  They made their home in the Portales area.  Mary Lou was a very devoted wife and mother, and supported her family completely.  She was always there when her children were involved in programs or sports, and available to her husband to help him with whatever was needed on the farm.  After Mr. Boone died on August 2, 1990, she decided to go to Roswell and become a Registered Nurse.  Nursing was just an extension of who she was, and was a fulfillment of who she felt God had created her to be.  She became an excellent nurse, and was known for how caring and tender she was with her patients.  Families took great comfort in knowing that Mary Lou was their family member's nurse.  Mary Lou worked as an agency nurse throughout New Mexico and even some in Texas.
While she was still in nursing school, Mary Lou married Randy Ball.  They made their home in Logan, where she learned to fish and enjoy the water.  Mary Lou became an avid fisherman, and loved being on the water catching Walleye.  You could often hear the echo of her laughter coming across the lake.  Mr. Ball also preceded her in death in 2005.
On September 13,  2006, she was married to Rodger Mason.  They continued to make their home in Logan, and she continued to travel doing her nursing until she became ill in September 2010.  Shortly after marrying Mr. Mason, her grandson, Tyler Boone moved in to make his home with them.  They were instrumental in the formation of his character as he has grown to be a young man.  Mary Lou loved the Lord, and loved to sing and worship him.
She is survived by her husband, Rodger Mason of Logan; a daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Alton Shields of Roswell; a son and daughter-in-law, Troyce Boone and Jamie Dean of Roswell; her mother, Betty Richards of Portales; a step-son, Rodger Doyle Mason of Logan; six grandchildren, Tara and Terrence Shields, Tyler and Taylor Boone and their mother, Kelli Thurman, and Tatum Boone and Ethan Dean; three brothers, Morris Perry of Amarillo, Eddie Perry of Portales and John Bruggeman of Lubbock; and five sisters, Jeanette Hill of Lubbock, Donna Warren of Cisco, TX, Doris Strong of Portales, Valerie Cox of Lazbuddie, TX, and Debbie Lewis of Portales; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by two husbands as well as by her father, Hiram Perry and a step-son, Joseph Melvin Mason.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary of Portales, 575-356-4455.

Lou was a bright and shining person. She touched and made a difference in many lives. I was blessed to be one of those that she touched and made a difference in my life. We shared nursing school together. Her infectious laughter is one I will always remember. So many of her family I have had the pleasure of knowing and being friends with and you all are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I could be there Monday to share in the celebration of her life with you all. It softens the loss knowing we will get to be with her again in Heaven.

My Aunt Lou or as i know her as Aunt Grandma, was an exceptional woman. She touched the lives of many and not just those in her family. All who knew her fell in love with the tenderness and affection she showed everyone. She judged no one and loved everyone. May her legacy of passion, love, kindness, sharing, and giving live on. I love and miss you Aunt Grandma!!!!

My heart is heavy and the tears don't stop; but through the tears I see Lou's smile, and over the sobs I hear her voice telling me that it will be okay. May each of you find comfort in her strength and her love of you, and peace through her Lord. I love you!
