Mike West Obituary

Longtime Fort Sumner rancher Mike West passed away at his home on October 4, 2025, with his family by his side. Michael Bob West was born in Denver, Colorado on June 26, 1950 to the home of Bob and Ann (Steele) West. Mike grew up in Fort Sumner, and graduated with the class of 1969. He attended New Mexico State University and received his Bachelor's Degree in Ag Education. He worked at Cobre High School as their Ag teacher for 3 years before returning to the family business at Steele Ranch.
Mike married the love of his life Stacy Isler on July 21, 1973 in Grady, New Mexico. Together they had their 3 boys Cody, Casey, and Curt.
Mike loved his family, his church, and his community. He spent countless hours on civic duties serving as the President of the Farmer's Electric Board for 26 years, and on other various boards including the Soil Conservation Board, President of the Fair Board, President of the Ex-Student Association, a member of the Jaycees, and the Fort Sumner Bowling League. Mike loved being Papa to his grandchildren. He was excited to watch his family participate in sports and other activities. He enjoyed team roping, but found the most joy working on the family's ranch.
Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents Bob and Ann (Steele) West, and two brothers-in-law JD Isler, and Lecil Richards.
Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years Stacy West of the family home in Fort Sumner, three sons: Cody (Lindsay) West of Fort Sumner, Casey (Olivia) West of Clovis, and Curt (Tanra) West of Taos, his stepmother Mary Ann West of Las Cruces, NM, his siblings: Cynthia (Mike) Andreas of Perryton, Tx, Charlie (Vicki) West of Fort Sumner, Cathy Fikany of Las Cruces, and Jane Hammond of Isle of Palms, SC. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren: Kolter (Marla) Lewis, Johni West, Keeli West, Creed West, Eli Washburn, Gavin West, Aspyn West, and Alice West, 3 great grand girls: Harper, Klara, and Josie Lewis. Numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many good friends also survive.
Memorial services will be held at 10 am , Saturday October 18, 2025 at Fellowship Methodist Church in Fort Sumner with Pastor Marvin Pounds officiating. Burial will follow in the West family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Kolter Lewis, Creed West, Eli Washburn, and Gavin West.
