Ron was born to Lex and Mary Lee Baker on December 27, 1946.
He was raised in Clovis and married the love of his life, Joyce Ford, on June 17, 1967, in Clovis. He served his country in the Army from 1966 to 1968. He was stationed in Clovis, Santa Rosa, Las Cruces and Santa Fe. After his retirement, he continued in law enforcement with the ENMU police and the Curry County probation office. Ron enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and traveling. He spent many hours investing in the lives of young people, chaperoning youth trips and volunteering at Bonita Park Nazarene Conference Center in Ruidoso. He was a foster father to many children and enjoyed working with at-risk youth.

My deepest condolences to the Baker family. Ron and I met at Gattis Jr. High
and remained friends until we graduated from Clovis High. We lost touch when I left Clovis to join the Navy. As Catholics are wont to say, "I'll light a candle for him."

When I was in college, I had the opportunity to work at the university Police department. Lt. Baker was like my dad away from home. Infact we referred to him as Papa Ron. He was such a good man and was a very positive influence in my life. He will be greatly missed.
