On October 27, 1933, Rubye Lee Hartley-Johnson the youngest of 6 children, was born to the home of CB and Gussie (Goldsmith) Hartley in Greenville, Alabama. In the summer of 1958, she and her two children Michael and Shelia (Diane) took the train to Clovis, New Mexico to visit her sister Florence and her husband Watkins who was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base; however, the visit turned into a permanent residence when she met the love of her life Kurrilue Johnson at his barber shop. On August 11, 1958, she and Kurrilue were married and had 3 children together Rodney, Rhonda (Kay), and Jeana. They were married for 42 years until his death in 2000. Rubye worked at the Levi Plant, and after it closed she started a housecleaning business. For over 30 years she was a well sought out and respected housekeeper who served many families in Clovis. All of her families she served loved "Rubye." She was not just the weekly housekeeper, but she became a part of their families until she retired. After retiring to care for her husband until his death, she decided to train to become a Respite Foster Parent for CYFD. Mrs. Rubye loved being a "foster mom" to many young children by giving them lots of love, preparing delicious meals, and providing them a safe place in their time of need.
Mrs. Johnson was known for her cooking skills and the way she kept her home. She was a perfectionist and she loved making her house a home. Rubye enjoyed traveling to spend time with her children and their families, and she loved shopping! Most of the store associates in Dillard's and Beall's knew Rubye! She was proud of all of her children and grandchildren and loved being a wife and mother. However, her most important role was being a Christian. Sis Johnson has been a member of 4th and Cameo Church of Christ for over 50 years. She was a faithful member until her health did not permit it. She loved to study the word and share the love of Jesus with everyone. She lived by Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control; against such there is no law." Her goal in life was not to be a millionaire or live in a mansion, or drive a fancy car, but it was to Fly Away to the Streets that are paved in Gold and live in her Mansion that was prepared for those who believe and obey! Alzheimer's may have stolen her mind and body over the last several years, but on March 16, 2023, Rubye Johnson WON-she transitioned from this earthly life into her eternal life peacefully at Vibra Life Assisted Living in El Paso, Texas.
Rubye leaves to celebrate her life here on earth her 5 children, Michael Marlow of Texico, NM; Shelia Lattimore of Warner Robins, GA; Rodney Johnson his wife Aimee of Flower Mound, TX; Rhonda Kay Johnson of Stone Mountain, Georgia; and Jeana Dozier and her husband Eric of El Paso, TX. 1 Special Bonus Son Kurrilue Johnson of Maryland. 12 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren and nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
