Scott Curtis Simpson

1961 - 2025

Scott was born in Dalhart, Texas, on June 8, 1961, to David (Punk) Simpson and Jo Ann (Turley) Simpson. Scott married Cheryl Whitecotton on November 29, 1980, and together raised three children.
Scott worked as a dispatcher for the New Mexico State Police for several years and retired from the City of Tucumcari as Recreation Director in 2017.
Scott loved coaching his children's baseball, soccer and basketball teams over the span of their youth. Scott (and Cheryl) loved all sports and made it a point to attend as many of their children's, and then grandchildren's events as possible. If you have ever been in their house, you know they were always watching sports.
Following a tradition his grandparents started in 1958, Scott and Cheryl would travel to Las Vegas, NV to the National Finals Rodeo, something they looked forward to each December, making great memories with family and close friends.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents, David and Jo Ann Simpson; a brother, Russell J. Simpson; maternal grandparents, Pete and Mavis Davis; paternal grandparents, Carroll and Ruth Simpson.
Scott leaves behind his wife Cheryl of 45 years; his daughter, Amber Simpson of Tucumcari, NM; sons, Sean (Amy) Simpson of Amarillo, TX; and Curtis (Desiree) Simpson of Tucumcari, NM; his sister, Tami (Steve Saul) Simpson; eight grandchildren: Adrien Roybal, Jr., Ava Roybal, Taylor Simpson, S.J. Simpson, Weston Simpson, Kaia Simpson, Lewan Simpson, Cylus Simpson; and three young ladies dear to his heart, July Lafferty, Rachel Mardo and Amaky Hernandez-Zuniga.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Center Street Methodist Church, 406 East Center Street in Tucumcari. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Paws and Claws Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 143; Tucumcari, NM 88401.
