Mozelle Calhoun Obituary

Funeral services for Mozelle Choate Calhoun, 85, of Sallisaw, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw.
Burial followed at Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Mrs. Calhoun was born April 12, 1937, in Marble City, to James "Jim" Choate and Flora (Harvey) Choate. She died on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, in Sallisaw.
She married J.W. "Jay" Calhoun on Feb. 18, 1955, in Muskogee. He preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 2011, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Survivors are two daughters, Donna Rhodes and Susan Morrison and Casey, all of Sallisaw; two sons, Phillip Calhoun and Sonnet of Anchorage, Alaska, and Lance Calhoun and Brandi of Sallisaw; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Calhoun of Sallisaw; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Campbell of Marble City; three sisters-in-law, Avis Choate of Marble City, Alta Calhoun and Fern Kinsey of Sallisaw; one brother-in-law, Ralph Calhoun and Diane of Clinton, Ark.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by a son, James C. Calhoun; son-in-law, Scott Rhodes; her parents; five brothers, Buck, Bill, Pete, Raymond and Jackie Choate; and two sisters, Freda Cupp and Bernice Bush.
Active pallbearers were Eric Bush, Kelly Choate, Watie Choate, Leslie Choate, James Choat, and Andy Choate.
Honorary pallbearers were Pat Borland and Robbie Capps.
