In Loving Memory of "Coach" Earlene Knight
Obituary
Earlene Knight, aged 79, of Monticello, FL, passed away on November 2, 2025, at Brynwood Health and Rehabilitation Center under the compassionate care of Big Bend Hospice.
Early Life and Education
Earlene was born on August 23, 1946, in Doerun, GA, to David and Myrtle Weathers. She began her education at Funston Elementary School in Funston, GA, and graduated from Moultrie Senior High in Moultrie, GA. Earlene continued her academic journey at North Florida Junior College, where she earned her associate's degree. She furthered her studies at the University of Florida, obtaining a degree in Elementary Education, and at Florida State University, where she achieved a degree in Music and Physical Education.
Career and Service
Earlene dedicated her career to teaching at Jefferson County Elementary School and Jefferson County High School in Monticello, FL, from 1977 until her retirement in 2007. During her time at the high school, she also coached the softball team, earning the affectionate nickname "Coach." After retiring, Earlene continued her commitment to education by serving as a school board member, a position she was appointed to by Governor Charlie Crist. She was also an active member of the Jefferson County Retired Educators Association.
Community Involvement
An enthusiastic supporter of the military (and Florida Gators), Earlene was an active member of the Valor Team with Big Bend Hospice. She took immense pride in her efforts to help restore the Veterans Day parade to Monticello, FL, honoring those who served.
Family
Earlene is survived by her son, David Knight and his wife Theresa of Pocomoke City, MD, as well as her two granddaughters, Madison and Emily. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sherryl Womack, and her brother William (Bill) Weathers.
Final Arrangements and Memorial Gifts
In accordance with her wishes, Earlene arranged for the donation of her body to the Anatomy Gifts Registry. The family requests that any memorial donations be sent to:

Coach knight was my soccer coach all 4 years i remember my junior year we wasn't going to have a team. She told me if you get the players ill coach. It took me a week and by the time I told her I had the players she had already scheduled the games. We won district that year. She will be missed dearly. May God continue to comfort the family.

She was my PE Coach at Jefferson County High School. She was a very nice person. She will be truly mist from everyone in Monticello Florida. RIP Coach Knight.
