Frederic Oliver Golden

1935 - 2025

Frederic Oliver Golden passed away at his home on October 24, 2025.

Fred was born in Lakeland, Florida on September 9, 1935. He was a life long Florida resident except for his stint in the Navy as a Corpsman right after high school. After he left the Navy he joined Moore Business Service, Inc, an accounting and tax firm, in Lakeland. Fred retired after 40 years as Vice President and General Manager.

Fred spent the last 24 years as an unpaid ranch-hand at Golden Acres Ranch, a goat, chicken and sheep farm, along with his wife, Bobbie. His final moments were in the field petting one of the farm's rescue dogs on his way to collect eggs.

Fred was very active in sports. He participated in many sports, football, tennis, waterskiing and dancing, in his youth. He often spoke of boxing in the Navy. Fred was an active man. He was a member of the Jefferson Country Club for a short time and played golf there often.

Often, when the family of sons, daughters, in-law children, grandchildren and/or great-grand children visited the farm some sporting activity would ensue. Fred was still athletic, competitive and coordinated enough to play a mean game of Cornhole with some of them right before his 90th birthday.

Fred was the ultimate Florida Gator fan and would happily engage in "Gator" talk with any receptive audience. It was rare to see him without a Gator hat and/or t-shirt. He followed the football, softball and basketball games closely. The softball team being his favorite.
Fred never missed a chance to compare himself to his namesake, Todd Golden, the head basketball coach. He never understood why Coach Golden didn't take all his advise he offered when yelling at the TV.

There will be a Open House Time of Remembrance on November 15, 2025 at the farm from noon to 4 pm. Anyone unable to attend, but would like to participate, can request a Zoom link from Bobbie. As his friends and family know "he was always cuttin' a fool" to quote his dad. So come prepared to share your favorite corny, dad, Fred joke. Rest assured his family will have plenty to share and would love to hear yours.
