John White Obituary
John is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Martha Harrington White. He is also survived by his brother, William (Onita) White of Brandon, Fla, his children Ben (Karen) White of Marianna, Fla, Liz (Buddy) Knight of Jacksonville, Fla, and Greg White of Crawfordville, Fla. He was a proud grandfather to Matthew (Jennifer) White, John White, David White, Bradley Knight, Garrett (Brittany) Knight, and Emily (Michael) Puckett, along with 13 great-grandchildren.
John served four years in the United States Air Force as an aircraft instrument mechanic. He retired in 1995 from the Florida Department of Corrections, where he dedicated his career to public service. John spent numerous years as an active member of the Lions Club and spent his free time enjoying golf, woodworking, and making homemade jelly to share with friends and family. Until his last years, John found joy on his tractor, tending to his 17 acres in Lloyd, Fla.
Throughout his 91 years, John was known for his quick wit, humor, and his commitment to serving others. Together with Martha, he was a cherished member of Open Hearts United Methodist Church in Monticello, Fla.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, remembered for being generous with his time and abilities, and making a whole room erupt in laughter. Because of their loving support and care, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Big Bend Hospice (Big Bend Hospice Foundation, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd Tallahassee, Fla. 32308) or Open Hearts United Methodist Church (Open Hearts UMC Monticello, P.O. Box 555, Monticello, Fla. 32345).
The family will be receiving guests for a visitation at Bevis Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. to be followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
