Ruth Bailey Obituary

Our loving mother, Ruth Demott Teasley Bailey, passed away on June 12, 2024, in Jacksonville, Fla., at the age of 97. She was born in Monticello, Fla., on October 7, 1926. She grew up on the Demott family farm in eastern Jefferson County and was a resident of Jefferson County until the last several years, when she moved to Jacksonville, Fla., to be cared for by her daughter, Pamela, and son-in-law, Jim Gettemy. Mrs. Bailey enjoyed a 45-year career as a hairdresser at Fran's Beauty Salon, eventually retiring at the age of 80. She was the oldest living member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Monticello.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by her daughter, Pamela Gettemy (Jim) of Jacksonville, Fla., and son, Bert Teasley (Sharon Sagriff) of Monticello, Fla.; her sister, Marie Demott Holm (Howard) of Monticello, Fla.; grandchildren, Kim Cooksey Stanley (Rob) of Eastman, Ga., Keith Cooksey (Amy) of Tallahassee, Robby Teasley of Jacksonville, Holly Gettemy Branham (Ace) of Tampa and Luke Teasley of Panama City, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter Simpson, Walker Stanley, Skyler Stanley, Bryson Cooksey, Carolyn Cooksey, Mary Beth Cooksey and Ryker Smith, as well as three great-great-grandchildren, all who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Walter E. Bailey; her parents, George Demott and Inez Clark Demott; her son, Larry Teasley; her daughter, Gail Cooksey; brothers, A.D. Demott, Herbert Demott, James Demott and Maurice Demott; and sisters, Dorothy Teasley and Grace Holton.
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Beggs Funeral Home in Monticello. The funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Monticello, followed by a graveside service at the Elizabeth Cemetery. Friends and family were invited to join the family after the services at the Elizabeth Baptist Church Fellowship Hall to celebrate the life of their beloved Ruth Bailey.
