Scott Prentice Obituary
Scott Dobson Prentice was a loving father, musician, and farmer. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Judy and Mike Kerr; his father, Bruce Prentice; his brothers, Andrew and Jack Prentice; his sisters, Molly Engle and Michell Roberts; his many nieces and nephews; his four children, Alexandra Prentice, Alistair Prentice, Sage Prentice, and Grahame Prentice; and his granddaughter Phoenix.
Scott was born in Apple Valley, Minn. He grew up playing ice hockey in high school and working on his uncle's pig farm in the summers. He moved to Florida after high school and met the eventual mother of his children. Together they moved to California and then back to Minnesota, eventually making a home in Gainesville, Fla., where Alexandra and Alistair were born. Many of their first memories are from their home on the dairy farm--kiddie pools in the summer, the tire swing in the front yard, and walks through the cow fields in the evening.
Scott worked in agriculture most of his adult life and raised his children to see the beauty and value of this work. Since the twins, Sage and Grahame, were born in 2002, he worked to create a beautiful piece of property on which to raise cattle, and his children, in Monticello. Scott was a dedicated father, always ready to answer a question or fix a car problem, spending weekends working on dirt bikes and at motocross tracks with Alistair and never missing one of the twins' basketball games. He doted on his granddaughter, Phoenix, who called him "Grandpa With the Cows" and loved riding on the tractor with him.
Scott enjoyed playing guitar and staying up late listening to music by a bonfire, both at home and with family. For many summers, he took his kids on a road trip to a family lake house in Minnesota, and there are many fond memories of floating in the lake, sitting by the fire, playing poker, and listening to music with his siblings, parents, kids, nieces, and nephews. These were some of his favorite times on this earth.
Scott, our father, our brother, our son, our friend, will be greatly missed. He was a man of exceptional integrity and determination, a true artist, a fantastic Dad, and a man gone far too soon.
A visitation was held at 10 a.m., immediately followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, March 27, at Beggs Funeral Home, 485 E. Dogwood St., Monticello, Fla. Interment will take place in Prentice Cemetery, 820 Clark Rd, Monticello, Fla., following the services.
