Mirtie Dockery Obituary

Mirtie Farr Smith Dockery, 83, of Douglas, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at her residence.
Mrs. Dockery was born on Oct. 30, 1930 in Newington to the late Cone Edwards Smith and Mirtie Farr Smith. She was a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the University of Georgia. She taught home economics at Coffee High School and later was the director of food services for the Coffee County School System. She was a member of the Douglas First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her two daughters, Martha Lou (Chris) Royer of Douglas and Barbara D. (Carlos) Young of Augusta; two sons, Dr. Karl K. (Theresa) Dockery Jr. of Albany and Walter (Denise) Dockery of Broxton, Ga.; sister, Christine Cieslowski of Kildare; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy (Candice) Dockery, Tyler (Libba) Dockery, John (Callie) Royer, Kate (Todd) Walker, Dockery Young, Carla (Bill) Parker, Allie (David) Wall, Emma Young, Walter Karl "Bobo" Dockery and Sabra Dockery; 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and caregiver, Barbara Mathis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Karl "Bo" Dockery; grandson, William Kramer Royer; three sisters, Sarah Floyd, Eve Underwood and Martha Bevill; and three brothers, Joseph Smith, Augustus Smith and Walter Smith.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 29 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Shep Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Reddy Branch Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were John Royer, Jeremy Dockery, Dockery Young, Tyler Dockery, Bobo Dockery, Bill Parker, Todd Walker, David Wall and Belger Dockery.
