Henry DeVore Obituary
He was born on February 27, 1934 to Harry and Hilda (Smith) DeVore at home, near Wilton, CA.
He graduated from Elk Grove High School in 1951.
Hank married Shirley Kinser (from Ione) in 1952.
Hank and Shirley raised 4 sons-Keith, Kirk, Kevin, and Kris. He coached both Little League and Pop Warner football. They were both avid spectators at their son's sporting events.
In 1985, Hank retired from Sacramento County as the Park Operations Supervisor. In 1988, they settled in Ione, CA.
Hank was hard working, could repair almost anything, always had his garden, and liked to socialize. Hank and Shirley traveled in their motor home to more the 40 states, Mexico, and Canada. Both he and Shirley enjoyed watching football and baseball, particularly the S.F. Giants.
Hank and Shirley celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together in June of 2022. His outgoing personality, common sense, and friendliness will be remembered fondly.
Hank also played the saxophone in Ione until he was almost 89 years old!
Hank is survived by sons-Keith (Sue), Kevin, and Kris (Sheila); 7 grandchildren-Ryan, Caryn, Jill (Joey), Kenny, Manuel, Kyle, and Jordan; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley and their son Kirk.
A celebration of life for both Hank and Shirley will be held on Sunday, May 26th from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Ione Hotel.

Hank was an amazing guy! I was fortunate enough to have met him in Ione at Clarks Corner. I found out that Hank used to play the saxaphone so I suggested he dusted it off and come in and accompany my piano player every Friday and Saturday night. He picked up right where he left off and had a great time. His wife Shirley was also something special. I remember her working at the EG Market in Elk Grove for Jerry and Jeanne Strong. Two wonderful people that will be greatly missed.

Hank was always my Little League baseball coach. I was the same age as his son Kirk and we grew up playing for the Sheldon Yankees! He always made baseball fun!! After every game at the Elk Grove Park, we would all jump in the back of his pickup and ride to downtown Elk Grove for A&W root beer, and after winning big games we could get a root beer float. Lots of great fun memories with Hank and my teammates. I left after HS and went to Alaska on a basketball scholarship and feel bad that I never reconnected with Hank. I always coached my kids up in Anchorage Alaska in baseball and often reflected on Hank as a role model. My youngest boy Brody Jessee was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2022 and now plays in their minor league program for the Dayton Dragons. The love for baseball has definitely been passed on! Thank you Hank, and may god bless you and keep you!!
