Bill Bobbitt Obituary

Bill H. Bobbitt, 82, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.

He was born December 30, 1925, in Moberly, MO, the son of Hugh G. and Alice Foose Bobbitt. He graduated from Cairo High School, Cairo, MO, in 1943 and enlisted in the V-12 Naval Training Program at SE Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau. He was transferred to the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. After completion of his naval career, he received a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri, Columbia in June of 1948. Following graduation, he married the former Norma Ruth Jones of Levicks Mill, MO. He began his 37 year career with the Milwaukee Railroad as a civil engineer in LaCrosse, WI. He was assigned to various locations on the railroad, eventually transferring to the Real Estate & Industrial Development Department in Chicago. He retired as Vice President of that department in 1985. He was a 45 year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Elgin.

Surviving are his wife, Norma; son, Stephen (Kimberly) Bobbitt, of Lakewood, OH; daughters, Sharon (Dennis) Reagon of Huntsville, AL, Laurie Bobbitt of Columbia, MO, and Lisa (Ron Genslinger) Michaels-Genslinger of South Elgin; grandchildren, Emily Bobbitt, of Lakewood, OH, PFC Zachary Sheahan, currently serving in Iraq, Taylor Wright of Huntsville, AL, Jonathan Bobbitt of Lakewood, OH, Joren and Steffan Bublitz of South Elgin; step-grandchildren, Travis Reagon of Huntsville, AL, Bradly and Sierra Genslinger of South Elgin. He is also survived by a sister, Judy (Richard) Evans; a nephew, Eric (Laura) Evans; and a niece, Nola Evans, all of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 26 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Elgin. Burial will be private in Oakland Cemetery, Moberly, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the church or the Help Hospitalized Veterans Organization. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, is in charge of arrangements.

I was so sorry to hear of Bill's decline in health and passing. I pray for all of you the blessing of sweet memories, the hope of a joyful reunion in heaven, and Jesus holding you all close. God bless you.

John and I were so sorry to learn of Bill's passing. We always loved visiting with him and Norma or having lunch together when we came to Elgin. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Bobbitt families.
