Coach Chesbrough was my sister's father-in-law, and I had the opportunity to visit with him on several family occasions. He was a fine man and an Elgin legend. My deep condolences to the family.

i only met Bill about 6 months ago, when he came to the restaurant where I work (The Breakers) with my friend Ed. But I enjoyed his stories, his humor and quick smile on his return visits. My thoughts are with the family.

Tom,
Mary Lou and I are both sad to hear of your Dad's passing. Your dad was a legend in Elgin, but more than that, he helped shape the lives of many of the kids that went to EHS and had the good fortune to know your dad.
With much sympathy,
Tim & Mary Lou Molony

Bill was always one of my favorite customers. When he came in the store, I always hoped we could have one of our long conversations about sports without being disturbed. Bill, my friend, you are already being missed. God Bless you and your family.

To the family of Bill Chesbrough: May you find peace in knowing how much your father/grandfather was loved by so many. He touched the lives and hearts of more people than you can possibly imagine. Bill was a dear friend of my father, Bob Hobart who has also passed on to be with our heavenly Father. When I was about 13 years old, Bill and his adored wife, Eleanor, stayed in the cottage next to our family on Fence Lake in Minocqua, Wisconsin, for a number of years in the summertime. We had a wonderful time together as families on vacation at the Dueringer's Fence Lake Resort. I remember Tommy was just a small toddler at the time and I enjoyed playing with him and helping his Mom out - he was a hand full! When I reached High School, Bill remembered that I had changed diapers that week on the summer vacation and teased me about it in his study hall!!! He had a way of recalling something about everyone and making them feel special. Those were some grand times in Northern Wisconsin and your family loved it! I feel so blessed to have been able to share those good times with your Mom and Dad and your Aunt Ruth too. Bill holds a very special place in my heart as he does with so many others. Celebrate the life he lived and cherish it always. God Bless your entire family.

To The Family of The Coach:
It is very simply put. Bill Chesbrough was, and always will be, "The Coach".
I was lucky enough to play for Coach Ches. His work ethic and drive will always be a part of me. He always had time for his players. He always gave his all, and he will be "The Coach" to those of us lucky enough to have benefited from his leadership.
Thanks Coach.

To The Chesbrough Family:
I feel so bad about the passing away of Bill Chesbrough. "Ches" was a mountain of a man. He made his mark for Elgin High School while coaching the boy's basketball team. Like thousands of spectators, I was there to watch some great moments in the history of Elgin High School Basketball. His many achievements will never be forgotton and it was a wonderful tribute to Ches when the Field House at Elgin High School was named after him.
I had the privilege of being the Principal of Elgin High School. I worked with a great staff and a wonderful student body. My first day as principal, I met with Ches and he shared with me the history and traditions of Elgin High School and how we should always remember them. I was so impressed with his comments and his total commitment to Elgin High School. He cared a lot about the students, staff, parents and community.
Going out for lunch with Ches was like going to a political rally. Most everyone knew him and would want to visit with him and also shake his hand. He always had time for everyone.
I am fortunate that our paths crossed. His mentoring and advice have always stayed with me. He has left a beautiful legacy to many. Thanks Ches and God Bless You.
God Bless Bill Jr., Tom and their families.

I remember coach Chesbrough from the 1 year I attended Elgin High School in 1964 before my family moved out of that area. He was straight up with everyone in our gymn class. He is the only name I remember from Elgin High school (one other was my English teacher who wouldn't let us hear the radio when Kennedy was assasinated... but we had to continue diagraming sentences on the blackboard. Bill was a great teacher & left his marks on everyone. He will be missed.

I am a proud member of Elgin High’s class of 1967 and remember trembling when I found out that Coach Chesbrough would be my Driver’s Ed teacher. Ches was an Elgin High School icon and whether you had met him or not, you knew him. I had so much respect for the coach, I had to do my best. To this day, I remember many of his exact words spoken as he taught me to drive. During the weeks I had Ches as a teacher, I found him to be a very respectful, intense, caring and fun-loving man. I am honored to have known Mr. Chesborough as I did, and credit his accomplishments over the years as a source of my pride in Elgin High. And, now the angels will cheer for a job well done.

I have so many fond memories of Coach Chesbrough, starting with the autumn of 1950 when I first came to EHS as a Freshman and out for Fresh/Soph football with Ches as our coach. My memories go on and on through the years regarding this great man. My latest memory is of eight years ago when I organized a reunion dinner at Floyds Restaurant for our 1953-54 season Big Eight Conference Championship football team and he graciously attended bringing with him the large pennants of each school that was in the Big Eight conference of our time and that hung from the ceiling at the old EHS gym. He had us draw numbers and gave them to us as a gift.
Most importantly, Ches was a father figure to many of us youngsters of that era. He will be sadly missed by many. I repeat the comment of another in saying "Rest In Peace Coach Chesbrough, You really were the GREATEST!"
