Barbara Joan (Hess) Funkhouser, 88, of Howe, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Majestic Healthcare of Goshen. She was born on Feb. 3, 1936, in Elkhart, to the late Harold and Agnes (Hettinger) Hess.
Barbara is survived by her loving children, Robert Jr. (Michelle), Paul (Connie), and Peter (Gina) Funkhouser, and Julie (Dale) Guerra; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Janet (Donald) Chupp; and a loving host of extended family, friends and acquaintances.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her loving son, Daniel Funkhouser; brother, Richard Hess; and sister, Patricia Marshand.
Services for Barbara will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Billings Funeral Home with visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.. On Thursday, Oct. 31, visitation will continue from 11 a.m. to noon and a funeral service to immediately follow at noon. Pastor Mark Williams and Randy Perkins will officiate. Burial and graveside services will follow Thursday's services at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
Barbara was a homemaker throughout her life and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She could be found reading her Amish novels, creating counter cross stitch masterpieces, watching her beloved birds outside her window, or supporting her favorite sports team, Notre Dame.
Barbara will best be remembered as a funny and loving soul who was an amazing listener and caretaker. She, along with all the love and joy she shared, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts she touched throughout her life.
Memorial donations made in Barbara's honor can be directed to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
