E. Phillips Obituary

E. Jean Phillips, 93, of McLean, Virginia, formerly of Elkhart, passed away at home on April 2, 2025.

Jean was born Sept. 22, 1931, in Umatilla, Florida, to the late Arcilious Andrews and Reather C. (Edwards) Andrews. Also preceding her in death is a son, Malcolm, and her husband, Roger.

As Jean Andrews, she married Roger H. Phillips in Edwardsburg, Michigan, on Feb. 18, 1956. Roger died Feb. 5, 2000. She is survived by two sons: Marlon R. Phillips of McLean, Virginia, and Miles A. Phillips of Elkhart; four grandchildren: Maurice A. Phillips, Myron A. Phillips, Mallori Phillips Greenidge and Mateo Anderson-Phillips; two brothers, Gregory Andrews of Mill Valley, California, and Warren Andrews of Savanah, Georgia; and a sister, Audrey Andrews of Savanah, Georgia.

Jean graduated from Elkhart Business University as a secretary as well as an X-ray technician. She then took a position at Miles Lab as the Health and Safety clerk for the engineering department before her retirement in 1992.

Jean was a founding member of Agape Missionary Baptist Church. She was a past member of the Canaan Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and taught Sunday school. She also served on the Pastors Aid Auxiliary. Additionally, Jean was a life member of the NAACP, a past board member at ADEC, the American Lung Association and a member of the Couples Club.

Visitation for Jean will be held on Saturday, May 31, from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service at noon, all at Agape Missionary Baptist Church. Jean will be laid to rest next to Roger at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.
