Greg Truex, 76, of Niles, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, in his home, following an illness.
He was born on Sept. 20, 1946, to Lowell L. and Mildred (Misener) Truex in Elkhart, Indiana, and has lived in Niles, Michigan, for the past nine years. Prior to that, he had lived in Granger, Indiana, for 27 years. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Lowell L. Truex; a son, Brandon Truex; and a grandson, Stewart Truex.
Greg graduated in 1964 from Nappanee High School and then attended Ball State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business in 1969. He played basketball in both high school and college and was inducted into the Elkhart County Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
He retired in 2004 from Allstate Insurance Company, where he worked as an Insurance Sales Manager throughout Ohio, Illinois and Indiana for 35 years.
On March 2, 1968, he married Mary L. Maranda at the United Methodist Church in Albany, Indiana. Greg is survived by his loving wife of 55-plus years, Mary L. Truex of Niles, Michigan; his three sons, Chad (Judy) Truex of Elkhart, Indiana; Justin (Amy) Truex of Canton, Ohio; Drew (Clara) Truex of South Bend, Indiana; three grandchildren, Gina, Brandon and Carrie Truex; his mother, Mildred Truex of Nappanee, Indiana; one sister, Judy Cripe of Brandon, Florida; and one brother, Kirk Truex of Nappanee, Indiana.
Greg loved fishing and spending time at his place, at Seagull Lake, in the boundary waters of Minnesota.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana.
