Jackie Hackney, 74, of Goshen, took his last breath here on earth on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at 4:11 p.m. in his home surrounded by his family listening to sweet hymns of faith.
Jackie was born on July 22, 1949, in Pikeville, Kentucky, where he spent all of his childhood years. He moved to Goshen, Indiana, in the mid 1960s with his family to pursue employment. This is where he met the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Patricia Reynolds, and they began a long life together where he cherished her more and more as the years went by.
Jackie was preceded in death by his mother, Glendall Good, his step fathers, Oliver Hackney and Earl Good, a brother, Rick Hackney, and a sister, Karen, who died as an infant.
He is survived by his son, Earl David Hackney and his wife, Elena, along with his only grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Trevor and Rachelle Hackney all of New Paris. He is also survived by two sisters, Charlene Noe and Faye Goley, both of Goshen.
Jackie worked for more than 20 years for Anderson Boling in Goshen prior to them going out of business and then worked for more than 20 years and eventually retired from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department as head of maintenance. He loved his position with the Sheriff's Department and missed his work there long into retirement. He prided himself in problem-solving and loved a challenge when it came to any maintenance issue.
He and Patricia attended the Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in Goshen where he was baptized following a decision to follow Christ Jesus. He faithfully used his giftedness to serve the congregation at Cornerstone until he was no longer able to physically.
He was a charitable man and had a heart for giving. It blessed him to give when there was a need and loved to see a smile on the receiver's face. While his favorite music was always country, he grew to love and feel comforted by country gospel music.
While he knew a life apart from God much of his life, he left this life embraced in the arms of Jesus as a redeemed Child of God.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Rieth Rohrer Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St. Goshen, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. celebration of life service on Friday, Jan. 12, also at the funeral home. Officiating will be his son, Pastor Dave Hackney, assisted by Pastor Matt Schoettle. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery
