Larry Russell Kegerreis, 76, passed away peacefully on Sept. 17, 2025, in the comfort of his home in Granger, Indiana.
He was born on Oct. 18, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Richard and Delphine Kegerreis. He was raised in Elkhart, Indiana, and was a 1967 graduate of Elkhart High School. In 1969 he was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army. He served for three years and while stationed in Korea he earned an Army Commendation medal, a National Defense Service Medal and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
After his return from the service, Larry became a letter carrier for the Elkhart Post Office where worked beside his father. In early 1972, Larry met the love of his life, Mary Jane Galloway, and they were married on Aug. 19, 1972, after knowing each other for six months. He was a devoted husband to Mary Jane for 53 years. They raised their two daughters (Monica and Melissa) in Elkhart.
After 37 years of service with the Elkhart Post Office, Larry retired and he and Mary Jane enjoyed traveling. Some of his favorite trips included a visit to Cape Cod and to Ireland for the 2012 Notre Dame-Navy football game. Larry was an avid sports fan and often could be found watching Notre Dame football, the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago White Sox from his recliner with a cold glass of Miller Lite on ice. He enjoyed attending Notre Dame women's basketball games each winter. Above all, Larry enjoyed spending time with his three grandsons, Nathan, Lewis and Clark McNeer.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers-in-law, Jacob Galloway, Merle "Donald" Galloway and John Galloway. Surviving are his beloved wife, Mary Jane; two daughters, Monica Kegerreis of Goshen and Melissa (Trent) McNeer of Granger; grandsons, Nathan, Lewis and Clark McNeer; cousins Cheryl (James) Wroblewski and Diane Kolber Glon; sisters-in-law Nancy Galloway and Esther Galloway Mast; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
