Dick was a kind, generous man who served the Lord passionately. Upon graduation from high school, Dick enrolled in The Salvation Army's officer candidate program, eventually becoming an ordained minister. Shortly thereafter, Dick enlisted in the United States Navy and served proudly for 20 years as a senior chief petty officer. After retiring from the Navy, Dick returned to college, earning a bachelor's degree from Tulane University. He worked in Tulane's athletic department for six years before moving to Elkhart to be closer to his large family. Dick was hired at CTS in 1978 where he enjoyed a long career until retiring. Post retirement, Dick enjoyed living on the lake. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Elkhart and was a regular volunteer for the American Legion in White Pigeon and the Popcorn Guild at the Sturgis Hospital. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, reading, gardening, watching IU and Butler basketball, hosting family gatherings and fish fry's, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be given to The Salvation Army, 300 N. Main St., Elkhart, IN 46516.
