Stephen Strickland Obituary

Stephen "Steve" J. Strickland, 65, of Elkhart, passed away Aug. 2, 2023, at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born June 29, 1958, in Houston, Texas.

On Dec. 31, 1991, he married Linda Bryant; she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Nola (Donald) Crocker; grandparents who raised him, Edwin and Mabel Vantine; and three siblings, Karen Schrock, Mike Strickland and Kevin Strickland.

Surviving are three children, Joshua Strickland, Jill (Kory) Smith and Lee "Eddie" Carpenter; and seven grandchildren, Brooke and Lyndsay Strickland, Jayson and Lilly Smith, Justin, and Coty and Tori Carpenter. Also surviving are two siblings, Kenny (Patty) Strickland and Lynne (Chuck) Kelley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve was a proud U.S. Marine veteran and after serving was in the Reserves for many years. He was also member of the Osceola American Legion and owned Affordable Comfort for many years where he had the great pleasure of working with so many loyal customers until his retirement. Steve enjoyed cooking, horseback riding, shooting guns, traveling, going on cruises, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

Military honors will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. at the Omega Event Center, 2130 Middlebury St., Elkhart, IN 46516. A celebration of life gathering will follow at Mr. G's, 708 Lincolnway West, Osceola, IN 46561.

My condolences to Steve's family. Steve was on of the good guys! We meant in Jaycees then continued friend through 2 furnaces and many services calls with a beer or two when done. Enjoy your fond memories. Ron Taylor
