Thomas Aloysius McGann, affectionately known as Oliver P. Shagnasty, 87, of Sun City Center, Florida, and Diamond Lake, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025.
Born on Nov. 24, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph Patrick McGann and Helen Walsh McGann, Thomas lived a vibrant life defined by service, family, and community.
A proud graduate of John Carroll University and U.S. Army veteran, Thomas served his country with honor. His career in sales showcased his charisma and dedication, leaving a lasting impact. At John Carroll, he was a cherished member of the Infamous Thursday Night Study Club, sharing his passion for "learning" and forging lifelong friendships. Summers on Diamond Lake, Michigan, saw Thomas as the "captain of the sandbar," uniting friends and family with his warmth and humorous one-liners. Winters were spent in the sunny community of Sun City Center, Florida, building cherished memories.
An avid Notre Dame fan, Thomas shared his love for Fighting Irish football with his wife, Louise, attending both home and away games with enthusiasm. As president of the Notre Dame Quarterback Club, a recruiting organization, he proudly supported the university's athletic legacy.
Thomas was predeceased by his beloved wife, Louise Cassidy McGann; sister, Donna Weber; grandson, Steven Ransberger; great-grandchild, Joel Lares; and parents, Joseph and Helen. He is survived by his children, Michael McGann (Jille), Marie Ransberger, Kevin McGann (Jodi), and Patrick McGann (Jayna); 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister and friend, Margaret "Peachy" Amato and Carol Niccolai; and special friend, Gracie Swagel.
A memorial service will be held on July 25, at St. Ann Parish, 421 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis, Michigan, with a fellowship hour at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11 a.m., and lunch afterward. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org) or St. Ann Parish, 421 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis, MI 49031.

My husband and I met Tom through a mutual friend. He was always kind and affable. His love for The Fighting Irish was palpable and contageous. A good egg he was. Rest in heaven Tom.
