SPARTA — Thomas Sloane "Tom" Guy III, 70, of Sparta, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at his residence. Tom was born Dec. 18, 1945, in Richmond, Virginia, to the late Thomas Sloane Guy II and Anne Haynes Guy. He is survived by one son, Thomas Sloane Guy IV and wife Libby of Philadelphia; one daughter, Abbey Guy of Chicago, Illinois; one grandson, Jake Guy of Philadelphia; two sisters, Linda Alford and husband John of Asheville and Christy Crochet and husband Dan of Cheyenne, Wyoming; special friends, Vickie Bartlett and Rebecca Kovacich; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family requests the honor of your presence at the Celebration of Life Service to honor the life of Tom at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, in the chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge St., Elkin, NC 28621; or Twin Oaks Animal Shelter, 2970 U.S. Hwy. 21 N., Sparta, NC 28675. The family would like to extend special thanks to Vickie Bartlett for her support and Christy and Dan Crochet for leaving their home in Cheyenne, Wyoming, for one month to take care of Tom. Was watching a special today on the Vietnam war and wishing I had spent more time listening to my father, Tom Guy, on his experiences there and lessons learned. He almost never spoke of it which tells me it was a horrible time for him.
