FLORENCE M WALTHER
February 1, 1924 – August 7, 2021
CASTRO VALLEY, CA Florence Walther, 97, died August 7, 2021 from cerebrovascular disease at AAA Care Haven in Castro Valley. She was born Florence Mabel Duus February 1, 1924 in San Francisco to Albert Duus of Germany and Mabel Bagnall of California. Florence lived much of her life living with her mother and grandmother in Berkeley and graduated from Berkeley High School in 1942.
She worked at the Naval ship yard during WWII and married Russell Sutcliffe in 1947. She later worked as an Administrative Assistant for the First United Methodist Church and retired at age 63. Florence was widowed in 1996 and later married Paul Walther in 1997. She and Paul lived in Elko until his death in 2012 when she moved to Castro Valley to be near her children.
Florence was a gentle, giving soul who hosted many dinners on behalf of First United Methodist Church. She was a prolific quilter, one of her quilts hangs in the Elko Chamber of Commerce.
Florence is survived by her two sons, Russell Sutcliffe Jr of Hayward and his wife, Connie and Randall Sutcliffe of Roseville and his wife Carrol, her stepchildren, Joe Walther, Tom Walther, Greg Walther, Evelyn Funston and Sheldon Walther. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Erin Ambrose and three great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held this Saturday, October 16 at the Burns Memorial Gardens, 895 Fairgrounds Rd, Elko, NV at 1:30 pm.
