JOEL SCHORR Obituary

The dictionary is the ONLY place where success comes before hard work. On August 12, 2010, hard work led to the death of Joel Ethan Schorr, age 38, in a tragic accident at the Barrick Goldstrike Meikle Mine in Carlin, Nevada.
Ethan was the beloved husband of Angela Marie Schorr, whom he considered the ""love of his life."" He was previously married to Melani Jae Hill, who currently resides in Cheney, Washington with his children Casey and Kaelie. Ethan was the greatest father in the world to Stephanie, Casey, Brandon, Taylor and Kaeli. Fatherhood was his most prized accomplishment in life. He would tell you he made mistakes in life, but his children were NEVER one of them.
Ethan was born on February 25, 1972, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, to Fleeta Lorene and David Carl Schwolow. The family unit changed in1974 when the family moved to Idaho. Ethan was raised by his mother and Allen Schorr and attended schools in Pocatello, Idaho, where he obtained his GED. Ethan legally changed his name at the age of 18, to Joel Ethan Schorr.
Ethan loved the outdoors and doing anything in the mountains. He especially loved to fish and to teach his children about hunting, fishing, and camping. The family could be found most weekends camping somewhere in the Wild West. He has also been known to sink jet skis. Ethan was a tinkerer and considered himself a pretty good mechanic. He enjoyed fixing and building things in his spare time. He and his son Casey were building a rock crawler out of a Toyota pickup prior to his death. Casey says he WILL finish it. Ethan loved hanging out with his friends and family most of all, and playing with not only HIS kids, but everyone's. If there was a kid around, Ethan was there too.
His professional life including attending vocational and welding courses at Idaho State University and Great Basin Community College. He had been employed in the industrial field most of his life. Ethan began employment with Barrick Goldstrike in June 2007, which led him to relocate his family to Elko, Nevada, and ultimately to purchase a home two months ago in Spring Creek. Some of his closest friends were those he met while working at the mine. We know they will miss him and we are still wondering why they fondly refer to him as ""Big Sexy.""
Ethan is survived by his parents Allen and Lorene Schorr, Lewiston, Idaho. His wife, Angela Marie and his children Stephanie RaNae, Casey Allen, Brandon Lynn, Taylor NaSheena and Kaelie Elizabeth, of Spring Creek, Nevada and Cheney, Washington. He is also survived by his brother Mark (Mary) Schorr, Barrington, Illinois; Michael Schorr, Blair, Nebraska; Sandy Schorr, Hayward, Wisconsin; Sheryl Bjornson, San Diego, California; Dealiah (John) Johnson, Lewiston, Idaho; Paula (Odis) Aldous; Pocatello, Idaho, and a half sister, Crystal Schwolow, Arkansas. He had nine nephews, eight nieces, a great niece and nephew, and a great niece due in September he didn't get to meet. Ethan was preceded in death by his grandmothers, grandfathers, a nephew, Brennan Michael, and cousin, Duane Douglas. In lieu of flowers, the Ethan Schorr Benefit account has been established at Elko Federal Credit Union to assist his family. The family would like to thank the employees of the Hilton Garden Inn, the support staff from Barrick Goldstrike, Elko County Sheriff's Office, and the various businesses in this community which have poured their hearts in our time of need. Your community is AMAZING! The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at 2:00 pm at the Elko Convention Center. Reception immediately following memorial service at the Red Lion Hotel & Casino. There will be Celebrations of Life in Cheney, Washington, where he lived for several years and in Pocatello, Idaho, where he grew up. Ethan's remains will be interred at the Lewiston Mausoleum at a later date.

May the powerful words written in the bible be able to touch your heart during these emotional and painful moments. Matthew 5:4 reads.. "Happy are those who mourn since they will be comforted." May the father of our Lord Jesus Christ continue to ease the sorrow of your broken heart.

although I never got to meet Ethan, I did have the pleasure of meeting his family during this hard time as Ethan was with my brother Dan. And through them I learned what a great person he was! I am sure both our families have some comfort that they died with each other during this time as I am glad that they both had someone to go through the gates of heaven with. and knowing them they were probably cracking jokes. I greatly appreciate the comfort Ethans family gave me during this time and hope that I may have given them some. GOD BLESS ETHAN AND HIS FAMILY!!!!!.

Mining Family

August 22, 2010

~A miners Prayer~
With buckets packed and hard hats on, They go to earn their pay. Miners have a special bond, They live it every day. All miners share the burden, When one has lost his life. The mines never could replace, The kiss he gave his wife. It's a special kind of job, Only miners do. No matter how far down they go, Angels go there too! We miss the ones that God called home, And the jokes that they have told. The dust floors they use to walk, Now have turned to gold. Deep in the earth, across the land, The miners did their best. Their bodies go back in the ground, Their place of final rest.
