Roseann Carpenter

1935 - 2025

Roseann Carpenter, neé Slater, matriarch of the Carpenter family, born April 29, 1935 in Ely, Nev. to Clarence and Genevieve Slater, died surrounded by family on August 18, 2025. She is preceded in death by her beloved John; son, Scott; granddaughter, Melissa; sister, Florence and brother, Clarence. She is survived by six of her seven children, John (Jet) Carpenter (Tina), Elizabeth Carpenter, Susan Kelly (Kim), Douglas Carpenter (Julien), Lois Carpenter Caldwell (Cecil), and Linda Meo (Nick), as well as 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Roseann was an active member of the Elko community for over 70 years. She raised her seven children, shepherding their many activities, had a vibrant social life with many friends including “The Group,” and returned to school for her degree in accounting, dedicating the next years to building her and John’s many Elko based businesses.

Philanthropy was an important part of her life, and she lived that philosophy through volunteering with the Elko General Hospital Women’s Auxillary, devoting her time and energy to the Cattlemen and Wool Grower’s Association, and furthering the education of women through her work with the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was a pillar of the community, with an unmatched legacy of hard work and generosity of spirit.

Roseann leaves behind a family who misses her dearly. We will always remember her beautiful smile, elegant style, cozy hugs, lemon drop-filled tea, funny faces, magical Christmases, summer-time water fights, never-ending pots of spaghetti, and most of all, despite how large her family grew, how she always found a way to make us each feel special. We may think we’re alone now, but she will live on forever in our hearts.

Services will be held on October 18, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. with the Rosary on October 17, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. Both will take place at St Joseph Catholic Church in Elko, NV. Celebration of life reception will be held at the Elko Basque Clubhouse immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Northeastern Nevada Museum or Shriners Hospital.
